Ayodeji & Kelly’s Beautiful Wedding at Derbyshire Register Office
I had the pleasure of photographing the beautiful wedding of Ayodeji & Kelly Tobun at the Chesterfield Register Office in Derbyshire. Nestled in the heart of Chesterfield, the Register Office offers a charming and elegant backdrop for couples, with its historic architecture and warm atmosphere creating the perfect setting for a wedding ceremony. From candid laughter to heartfelt vows, every moment of Ayodeji and Kelly’s day was a joy to capture. As a Chesterfield wedding photographer, documenting their love story in such a meaningful location was truly special.
Chesterfield Registry office is actually known as the Derbyshire Register office & is located in the heart of the Chesterfield Town Hall on the ground floor. They have 2 rooms available - one for a smaller more intimate wedding, and one larger for more grander affairs. For the Tobuns', the latter was used.
The Ceremony at Derbyshire Register office
Ayodeji & Kelly’s ceremony at the Derbyshire Registry Office was beautifully short and heartfelt, with just enough space between vows to take in those precious moments. Surrounded by their closest friends and family, they exchanged vows, rings, and their first kiss as a married couple - an intimate celebration filled with love.
What makes the Derbyshire Registry Office stand out is its modern and stylish atmosphere. Unlike some registry offices that can feel purely functional, this one has the warmth and character of a private wedding venue. It’s a popular choice for couples who want a relaxed, contemporary space for their ceremony while keeping the focus on family and connection.
Portraits at Derbyshire Register Office
Kelly & Ayodeji chose to have their couple and family portraits taken outdoors on the iconic steps of the Derbyshire Registry Office - a spot that is instantly recognisable to anyone local to the area. The steps provide a timeless backdrop for wedding photography in Chesterfield and are perfect for capturing both intimate couple moments and larger family groups.
Each family member brought their own personality and flair to the portraits, which made this part of the day especially enjoyable. I aimed to reflect that individuality in every image, creating a set of photos that not only celebrated Kelly & Ayodeji but also the character of the people closest to them.
The Reception
The couple’s reception took place at Duckmanton Miners Welfare, a local social club full of character and history. While it might not be a traditional wedding venue, the space was alive with laughter, music, and heartfelt celebrations, proving that the best memories come from the people, not the décor.
From the couple’s first dance to speeches and candid moments with family and friends, every detail was filled with warmth and energy. The quirky charm of the venue provided a unique backdrop for my photography, allowing me to capture genuine smiles, playful interactions, and the lively atmosphere that made Ayodeji & Kelly’s day so special. Even in a venue that might seem humble, love and joy transformed every corner into the perfect setting for celebration.
And we can’t forget the food! Catering was provided by Markan Foods (www.markanfoods.co.uk), and it was truly a highlight of the day. As someone who hasn’t often had authentic African cuisine, I can honestly say it was the best I’ve ever experienced.
The rice was prepared two different ways, the chicken perfectly spiced, and the beef was simply incredible. Every dish was full of flavour, beautifully presented, and perfectly suited to a day of celebration. After such a wonderfully busy day capturing the ceremony, portraits, and reception, I left feeling thoroughly satisfied and grateful to have experienced such a memorable feast.
