Rather than directing every moment or turning your wedding into a long photoshoot, I focus on observing what’s happening and capturing it honestly. The laughter, the nerves, the chaos, the quiet moments, and everything in between.

The Blue Planet Rule – Observing, Not Interfering
There’s a principle in nature documentary filmmaking, especially in work like The Blue Planet or Planet Earth. You don’t interfere with what’s happening. You observe, wait, and capture real behavior as it unfolds. That’s exactly how I approach wedding photography.
Weddings are full of genuine, unscripted moments. People behave differently. Emotions are closer to the surface. Sometimes alcohol helps too. It creates an environment where real moments happen naturally, without effort.
My job is not to manufacture those moments, but to notice them and preserve them.
What Documentary Wedding Photography Really Means
Being a documentary wedding photographer means being a professional people watcher. I move quietly around your day, paying attention to interactions rather than instructions. I’m watching reactions, body language, and the moments that happen when people forget about the camera entirely.
That might be an ugly laugh you only do with your closest friends. Someone dancing like nobody’s watching. A look between two people that lasts half a second but says everything.
Why Weddings Are Perfect for Documentary Photography
Weddings are one of the rare days where everyone you care about is together, emotionally invested, and removed from everyday life. Once the formalities are out of the way, people relax. Guards drop. My Role on Your Wedding Day
On your wedding day, I’m not there to control the flow or pull you away from your guests every five minutes. Most of the time, you won’t notice me at all. I blend in, move with the day, and let things happen as they should.
Couples often tell me afterwards that they were worried about feeling awkward in front of the camera, only to realise they barely thought about it on the day. That’s exactly how I want it to feel.
When I Step In (And When I Don’t)
- I don’t interrupt real moments for the sake of a photo.
- If something meaningful is happening, it comes first. Always.
That said, I’m not hands off to the point of being absent. I’ll guide group photos, help keep portraits relaxed and natural, and step in when it genuinely adds value. Think gentle direction, not constant posing.
